Here are a few new ones I've been working on... getting in the Autumn spirit, though I'm still stumped on a Halloween costume...
Chicago Skyline. Acrylic on Wood, 2.5x9.
So it's October, is it? It's starting to feel like fall most of the time now in Chicago. There's
something about pea-coat weather that makes me feel inspired to make some changes, and start fresh... whether that is me just rearranging my room, creating something new, or planning some adventure. It's probably just the new school year syndrome that's been beat into me for 16 years of my life, but I always feel both antsy and kind of excited at this time of the year.
Rocks and geodes
I've been really preoccupied lately with work and moving plans. Who knew moving across the country with a cat and all of your stuff would be so complicated... To take my mind off things, I've been painting rocks. Yeah, rocks. I've also been painting on wood slabs. I really am enjoying painting on wood... the grain adds a whole new dimension to it. I found these stone slabs at a nearby gem store in Andersonville. Some of them have cool geodes through the middle of them and interesting natural designs to paint with. I knew there was some reason not to let my parents throw out my (extensive) childhood rock collection.
Here are a few of the ones I've been playing around with:
These make kind of cool miniature decorative pieces, and they are really fun to find and make. It doesn't come out as well in pictures, but all of these are painted with at least some iridescent acrylics, so they are metallic looking in some areas.
Besides paint creations, I've been taking music classes and cooking a lot to use up this excited energy I have. I enrolled in a new fiddle class at the Old Town School of Folk Music, which is always so fun and inspiring. I will definitely miss OTSFM in Portland. As for cooking, Isaac has been taking a western nutrition class at his acupuncture college this semester, and we've been inspired to use the kitchen more and eat healthier. I made kale chips and homemade granola for the first time the other day....Cherry Cinnamon Granola...probably half nuts, half oats, so it's pretty hearty and delicious.
That's all for now, but more paintings and bottles to come soon.
