So I've been working on a couple new landscape pieces. This one actually started out as an abstract painting, that kind of developed into a stormy sky over water. I was experimenting a bit with iridescent paint, so there's a bit of a silvery sheen to a lot of the painting, which I'm pretty happy with.
This one is really reflective of dreams I've been having lately. I seem to dream about stormy seas often... usually in some form of tidal wave. Either I'm on the beach watching, or for some stupid reason I'm in a small boat like this one out on the waves. In any case, I get these dreams usually in periods of transition, when I am not sure or uneasy about what's up next in my life.
My boyfriend, Isaac, and I are planning a big move across the country in the spring. For a long while we did not know where exactly this would be, Boulder, Colorado, or Portland, Oregon. In August, we took a trip to both cities to make some decisions. Finally, after months of mystery and anxiety, we would know where we were going. Going to Boulder was kind of like stepping into an alternate reality. you can literally walk to the foot of a mountain 20 from the city center. Besides the fresh mountain air, everyone was friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy life, which was kind of a nice change of pace. Portland was beautiful as well, with its rivers and volcano and proximity to the ocean. We took a bike ride through some rose gardens, met some really great people, and went to the biggest bookstore I've ever seen. The art scene in Portland is amazing, and it was just as laid back and wonderful as Boulder. At the end of the day the decision came down to Isaac's graduate school plans, and so come April we are moving to Portland. Until then, stormy dreams and paintings to come.
